About Kerala

Kerala is known as 'Gods own country' and is famous for its fascinating tropical backwaters that can be enjoyed by canoe or an atmospheric house boat.  Kerala has well-deveoped beach life at Kovalam and the less-frenetic Varkala, as well as the resorts of Lake Kumarakom, whose hotels offer ayurvedic spas.  The lake is also the starting point for houseboat cruises of the lazy backwaters, a popular side trip lasting for anything from half a day to half a week.  Equipped with comfortable staterooms and modern bathrooms, the boats carry galley chefs who prepare excellent food, and by closely skirting the banks, offer a unique glimps into Kerala village life.  Inland, Kerala continues to compete for the relaxation market at the hill station of Munnar and the spice plantations around Periyar in the Cardamom Hills.
