Schoolgirls on bicycles, their traditional white "Ao Dai" tunics fluttering in the breeze; vendors engulfed in bright bubbles of balloons or pushing carts heaped with wares. The French influence is still apparent in Ho Chi Minh City - from the tree-lined boulevards to the imposing villas and colonial architecture. Although relatively modern, Ho Chi Minh City has still managed to hold onto its Asian character in this city where fine restaurants, smart hotels and chic bars line the streets crammed with noodle stands, markets and shoeshine boys
