Weather

Kuala Lumpur has an equatorial climate defined by hot year round temperatures and abundant rainfall. The Titiwangsa Mountains in the west and the mountainous Indonesian island of Sumatra to the east offer protection to the city and influence its climate. The southwest monsoon rain hits KL between September and April but rainfall is not too high throughout the season. The best time to visit KL is between June and August, when the weather is driest.  Penang’s equatorial climate means high heat, high humidity and high rainfall all year round. There are two main seasons – the dry season from December to March and the wet season from April to November. However, Malaysia is affected by two monsoon seasons so wet weather is always a possibility. Most people opt to visit Penang during the dry season, when rainfall and humidity are at their lowest.  Kota Kinabalu’s weather is defined by two monsoon seasons. The northeast monsoon from November to March is the cooler of the two and sees less rain. The southwest monsoon is much warmer and wetter. The dry season lasts from January to April, which sees a reduced level of rainfall. April generally receives the warmest temperatures.
