“The capital of Kota Kinabalu is a great base for exploring the wonders of Sabah, and acts as many people’s first taste of Borneo.”

Overlooking the beautiful South China Sea, Kota Kinabalu, or KK as it is affectionately known, is a friendly seaside mecca and a hive of culture. Clean and easy to navigate, the city is a great introduction to Sabah, not least due to its close proximity to some of the state’s main attractions.

Located on the north-west coast of Sabah, KK is sandwiched between rainforest and sea, and the nearby mountain ranges offer fascinating landscapes to explore. A climb to the peak of Mount Kinabalu is highly popular, and the two day hike will reveal some incredible scenery.
